Crowdfunding campaign for short thought-provoking movie, “it’s personal,” reaches the halfway point on Indiegogo

Los Angeles, CA – Today marks the halfway point for the crowdfunding campaign for independent artists Sofia D’Marco and Claire Chubbuck’s short film, “it’s personal,” with the campaign already close to reaching the stretch goal of $20,000. The movie is a short documentation of Sofia’s her real life experience of captivity and torture as she aims to use ART to reach out to others struggling silently, after a decade of silence.

“It’s personal” is unlike any other rape story as it is actually about breaking silence and the use of ART to help people in a similar situation. The story of the movie centers on Sara Martinez, an abduction victim that was taken to remote location and subjected to psychotic demands. After coming to the realization of her kidnapper, she was left with two options – live or fight back. Written and starring an abduction victim, Sofia D’Marco, the movie details Sara’s three days of confinement and how she had to endure a torturous love story between a thug and his unwilling bride. ‘It’s personal’ is the real story of a young girl and her violent experience with sexual assault.

Victims of sexual assault have often been victimized, with women being taught to politely decline to ensure their safety, but then are judged by their ability to clearly and specifically say the word “No.” However, “It’s personal” aims to explore why women are currently choosing to stay silent, and how it became so unsafe to speak.

The cinematography for ‘it’s personal’ is inspired by Wes Anderson – specifically the manipulation of sound and image to transport the audience into a whimsical fairytale. The film uses exuberant color tied to somber themes, creating “whiplash juxtaposition” for the audience. This visual modality is magnified by the contrast of what you see on screen with the action that is happening.

Therefore, it was not surprising that the Indiegogo campaign for the movie was able to reach an outstanding opening of $7,000 dollars in the first 10 days. The partnership with Ivana Chubbuck is in line with the goals of making the movie, which is to ensure the best possible representation of the actual events surrounding the story.

Consequently, Ivana Chubbuck, the Founder/Director of Ivana Chubbuck Studios in Los Angeles, CA, and the creator of the cutting edge and globally adopted CHUBBUCK TECHNIQUE has officially signed as Executive Producer.

The team is all about collaboration and using art as a new way of finding strength and healing for a new generation and has been tagged as #ARTivism.

“It’s personal” has already started to receive accolades with reviews coming from different quarters, particularly from victims of abduction and sexual assault. “The courage to tell her story, has a dignifying need and will inspire so many. I feel attached in a way I couldn’t understand and it is because there was a time I felt I shouldn’t be alive. I was rejected by my own mother — cruel, emotional and psychological abuse, I was bullied outside and inside home. I decided to be quiet and survive — and Sofia did too. I silenced my past as she did,” says Yael Michal Dredzen.
